The Upper Ross Community Fun Day aims to bring a low-cost, fun family event to an area which, at times, can be overlooked, while also raising awareness of the services available to provide support to community members from all backgrounds and at all stages of life.
This has become a regular event, hosted by Community Gro annually in the Upper Ross area for 20+ years!
And the 2022 installment is intended to be BIGGER and BETTER than ever.
Need convincing?
Let’s try and summarise some of the reasons you should put the date in your calendar and make sure you take the family…

  1. FREE FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

A free, family event on the first day of the school holidays held on a glorious Townsville winter day?  Yes please!  With thanks to support from the Townsville City Council, entry for this event and rides/amusements/kids activities are absolutely free.  The amazing team from Amusements Plus will bring along a Rock Climbing Wall, Jumping Bungy, Laser Skirmish, Jumping Castle/Slide Combo, Jumping Castle and two Face Painters to keep up with demand.  And the event is held at Charles Moroney Park so you will also have access to the amazing playground and there will be some sporting activities for the older kids too.

  1. MARKET STALLS

The first rule of a market – always do a first round, get a feel for what is available and then go again ready to purchase rare treasures.  We love Market Stalls because they are simple, they are surprising and the connect us to real people doing real business in our community.  While the kids are busy with rides and activities, stroll through and have a good look at some of the market wares available for purchase.  And remember…treat yourself as well as others!

  1. PRIZES, PRIZES AND MORE PRIZES

Not only is this event free, but families will also have the chance to win a lucky door prize…except there isn’t technically a door to enter through…but you get the idea.  The people and businesses of Townsville are so generous and we have been provided with a great range of prizes to be given out at the entrances to the event.  But get in quick – this is on offer for the beginning of the event until all prizes are given out.  Some of the prizes from last included a Weber BabyQ, Woolworths Vouchers, Sporting Equipment, Kids Toys, Cowboys Merch and more!

  1. FOOD TRUCKS

Food Trucks are taking over.  Low cost, convenient, supporting local and a great way to sample some new cuisine – everyone loves a Food Truck lunch.  There will be Food Trucks at the Community Fun Day as per previous years and we are excited to also support our local Upper Ross Rams through a fundraising Sausage Sizzle.

  1. CELEBRATION OF CULTURE

Community Gro acknowledges the Wulgurukaba people as the traditional owners of the land on which this event will be held and we always focus on making this event a celebration of culture.  The day will begin with Welcome to Country presented by Wulgurukaba Walkabouts.  Attendees will be able to participate in traditional Dance/Storytelling and Weaving workshops.  And while you enjoy your lunch you can listen to a Didgeridoo Performance and be entertained by our MC/Performer – David Graffin.

  1. CONNECT WITH COMMUNITY SERVICE ORGANISATIONS

You are not alone in the Upper Ross!  Come along to the Community Fun Day to meet with a range of community service organisations – teams of people who can help you where you are at today or who may be there for you in the future.  Connect with representatives from local Schools and Day Care Centres.  Find out what services are offered by organisations such as TAIHS, Althea Projects, Open Arms, Services Australia, Townsville City Libraries and many more.  You never know if and when you might need support, so make the connections at the Upper Ross Community Fun Day.

  1. MEET THE COMMUNITY GRO TEAM

The Community Gro Team have been providing services and support to the Upper Ross Community for over 40 years – we are local and here for you!  We love hosting this event each year and we are committed to continuing to bring fun and support to the people in this area. Come along and meet our Team, find out about our programs and tell us what you love about living in the Upper Ross.

Are you convinced?
Come along to the Upper Ross Community Fun Day on Saturday, 25th June from 10am-2pm at Charles Moroney Park, Kelso – we would love to see you there!
